Papervision, positioning objects on a sphere (AS3)
Budget - Less than $500
This is a very simple project. Its even embarrassing to call it a projects really - its basically a 5 minute bugfix.
I'm having a bit of a problem with my Flash(AS3)/Papervision code - to be precise, its more to do with a math formula I'm using.
I'm basically creating a sphere in Papervision and then texturing it with a movieclip material. That MC material has other MCs in it. The sphere has other 3D objects orbiting it (basically a marker/pointer pointing a point on a sphere). What I want to do is basically position that orbiting marker dynamically in the 3D space to point exactly at the point where the child MC is in the sphere texture/material.
The example of my (flawed) code is attached to this project. In the example the marker is positioned on the sphere and once you rotate the sphere (click on the sphere and drag), the marker should jump to be positioned over the MC in the sphere material (which in the example is indicated by a red dot). The marker should of course be positioned upright.
When you've corrected it, its really simple to test that. You just need to go into the "mapper" movieclip (in the library) and move the red dot to another location. Then when you compile the project, if the pointer/arrow would still jump to the correct position over the red dot - then it would be working.
Anyway - take a look at the example. There is very little code and like I said the problem is mostly in the math positioning formula probably.
For someone with experience in 3D/Paperivison the solution should be obvious and a mater of minutes if not seconds.
So - very simple. If you correct it, please PM the solution and the first one to get it right and explains it to me gets the easy money. Please understand that I have to do it like this because I've been wasting time on everybody and their mothers who think they know Flash and think to screw me over. YOU HAVE TO KNOW PAPERVISION + know a bit of 3d math probably.
There are 2 files attached to this project - one is the papervision project FLA + the example jpg screenshot of how the marker should look like positioned against the globe. Just so you get the idea.
